A wide-flange steel beam frames into a wide-flange steel column using welded stiffener plates. Type 2 stiffener plates are welded between the beam flanges on both the near side and far side unless noted otherwise. Fillet welds designated as W1 are applied typically at the flanges, with specific weld sizes W2 and W3 indicated at the web and stiffener connections. The assembly transfers high moment forces from the beam into the column web and flanges.
