A medium opening in metal floor or roof decking is framed with 3x2x1/4-inch angles on both sides running parallel to the flutes. The opening requires a minimum of three low flutes extending beyond the cut edges for bearing transfer. Fillet welds of 1/8-inch size secure each low flute with a 2-inch spacing typical. Maximum opening dimensions are set to 3 feet by 2 feet with restricted overhangs.
