About this detail

An HSS guiderail support column mounts atop a structural steel beam via a half-inch by ten-inch by two-foot base plate secured with four three-quarter-inch diameter by three-inch HSA anchors and a bent plate assembly featuring three five-eighths-inch diameter by thirty-inch headed deformed bar anchors at five inches on center. A concrete over metal floor deck bears on the steel beam, maintaining a one-inch clearance. Below the beam, an L3x3x1/4 brace connects via a three-eighths-inch by five-inch square gusset plate welded to the beam with quarter-inch fillet welds on two sides, alongside L6x4x5/16 angles on each side. A lower HSS guiderail support column stops one inch below the steel beam and connects using a three-quarter-inch through bolt in a two-inch vertical slotted hole within angles equipped with double nuts.
