Hollow structural section members sized per plan are capped with typical cap plates and joined by a central bolted connection. The cap plates are welded to the ends of each structural tube using typical partial-joint-penetration welds unless noted otherwise, supplemented by five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. A central plate connection tied with a single heavy-duty threaded fastener joins the two structural sections. Five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds secure the internal connection tabs to the main structural members.
