A smaller steel beam frames into a larger steel beam at a concrete masonry unit corner wall. The smaller beam connects to the larger beam via a welded flange plate measuring 5/16 inch by 4 inches, with a 3-inch plate permitted where the beam flange is 4 inches wide. A quarter-inch fillet weld is applied on three sides of the flange connection. The larger steel beam bears on an embed plate within the masonry wall, with reinforcing provided per plan. A cope is not required for the smaller beam due to the flange plate connection configuration. Bearing connections and embed plates are detailed per accompanying structural sheets.
