Interior and exterior steel sill and top track profiles are detailed with maximum allowable drilled hole sizes and side-plate reinforcement configurations. Unreinforced holes are limited to three inches in diameter for exterior tracks and five inches for interior tracks depending on track width. When hole sizes exceed allowable limits, reinforcing plates measuring one-quarter by two inches by one foot zero inches are welded to each side of the track web using quarter-inch fillet welds extending three inches at each end top and bottom. All holes must be cleanly drilled rather than sawn, and any notches or drilled holes exceeding allowable dimensions require notification of the structural engineer.
