Concrete slabs require additional reinforcement at reentrant corners and wall junctions to control cracking and transfer stresses. Two additional number four bars are placed at both the top and bottom of the slab edge with a typical two-inch clear cover. A two-foot minimum reinforcement length is specified, and American Concrete Institute standard ninety-degree hooks are provided when the required development length cannot be achieved.
