A concrete slab drop greater than four inches occurs directly over a wide-flange steel beam, with metal deck flutes oriented parallel to the beam axis. A continuous 12-gauge angle measuring 4x4 inches is attached to the beam web with a 1/8-inch fillet weld at 12 inches on center, providing vertical support for the depressed deck. Typical reinforcing steel mesh or bars run continuously through the assembly, supplemented by two continuous #4 bars bent with standard 90-degree hooks at the edge of the depression. Dimensional constraints require the depression edge to be offset from the beam centerline by a minimum thickness plus one inch, up to a maximum of four times the slab thickness.
