A steel beam sized per plan bears onto a hollow structural section hanger sized per section via a one-half inch knife plate. Three-eighths inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web. The knife plate connects to the hanger with a complete joint penetration weld. Fillet welds of one-quarter inch size connect the stiffener plates and beam assembly with typical spacing.
