This connection joins a hollow structural section beam to a wide flange column using two L4x4x1/2 inch angles, each eight inches long, positioned on either side of the beam web. The angles are shop-welded to the beam with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds on three sides, though these may be field-welded to facilitate erection. The assembly is secured to the column flange using two three-quarter inch diameter A325N through-bolts spaced at three inches. A one-inch clearance is maintained between the beam end and the column face. For specific locations, the design specifies using L5x5x3/4 inch angles with one-half inch fillet welds instead of the standard configuration.
