A concrete shear key is integrated into a concrete footing with an optional construction joint featuring a roughened surface with a quarter-inch amplitude. The assembly incorporates continuous horizontal number five rebar at twelve inches on center maximum vertical spacing within the key. Vertical number six rebar are spaced at eight inches on center, centered in the key, with standard 180-degree hooks at the bottom and standard 90-degree hooks at the top. Three inches of clearance is maintained around the reinforcement. Anchorage and reinforcement are partially omitted for clarity.
