A structural steel beam frames into a supporting girder utilizing a welded and bolted moment connection. Complete joint penetration groove welds secure the top and bottom flange plates to the beam and girder flanges. The flange plates match the beam flange width plus one and one-half inches, with a thickness equal to the beam flange thickness plus one-quarter inch and a minimum thickness of three-eighths of an inch. A shear plate is welded to the girder web and bolted to the beam web with a designated bolt pitch and a minimum six-inch dimension from the centerline.
