A concrete slab over metal deck bears perpendicularly on a wide flange steel beam. Headed shear studs are welded through the metal deck into the top flange of the beam within the low flutes of the deck. Deck reinforcement is placed within the concrete slab according to the structural schedule. The size and spacing of the wide flange beam and concrete deck are specified per the structural plan.
