One-inch by one-and-three-quarter-inch steel plates, each one-foot-six-inches long, attach to each side of a hollow structural section column. Hollow structural section size is determined per the structural plans. Plates are positioned on the exterior faces of the column to provide reinforcement or connection points for the splice.
