A temporary concrete slab opening and construction joint features keyways and embedded inserts. Top and bottom reinforcement includes number five bars spaced at nine inches on center each way, supplemented by number six bars extending two feet six inches at twelve inches on center. A single continuous number five bar runs at the inserts, which match the dowel spacing. Two number four bars flank the one-and-a-half-inch keyway at the joint interface. The opening is symmetrical about the centerline and is specified to be filled with concrete matching the specified compressive strength after removing temporary bracing. The keyway is omitted at post-tensioning stressing ends where required.
