Vertical reinforcing dowels extend from the core wall down into the concrete mat foundation, with size and spacing matched to the shear wall vertical reinforcement. All wall tie reinforcement, including hoops and crossties, extends a minimum of 12 inches into the top of the mat foundation and throughout any pits in the mat. Hook dowels or headed bars are provided at the contractor's option, extending the tie development length into the mat beyond.
