A steel beam frames into a steel hollow structural section column utilizing three erection bolts through a single-plate shear connection at the beam web with typical five-sixteenths inch fillet welds. A three-quarter-inch cap plate and a three-quarter-inch continuity plate fabricated from fifty ksi steel are welded to the column with complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom flanges. A steel tube filler matching the column below is provided within the connection zone. The steel column above connects at the cap plate with reference made to drawing C1/S302 for the column splice.
