Clear bar spacing, denoted as S, determines the tension splice length category for reinforcing bars. Elevation and plan views of staggered splices identify the relationship between spliced bars and intermediate unspliced bars. The clear spacing S is measured between the bars to ensure proper development and structural performance of the lap splice.
