Steel beams with standard holes connect to a steel column using bolted shear plates and welded moment connections at the flanges. Continuity plates are welded across the column web as required for the moment connection, featuring a one-eighth-inch maximum kerf shear plate wider than the continuity plate. Five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds secure the plates typically, with one-half-inch radiused corners. Stiffener plates are detailed per sheet S52-00, and bolt sizes and quantities are specified elsewhere in the drawing set.
