A buckling-restrained brace connects to a base plate sitting atop a concrete pier with a three-inch non-shrink grout layer. The assembly features a gusset plate sized per the manufacturer, anchored by anchor rods with nuts above and below washers, and reinforced with a system of hooks, couplers, and anchor rod configurations. Horizontal stiffener plates measuring one-half inch thick are welded to the column on each side with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides. An existing column occurs adjacent to the primary column centerline, while reinforcing bars run continuously through the concrete pier and slab.
