Additional reinforcing bars are placed around clustered openings in a concrete slab on steel deck to transfer stresses across the cut areas. Number four bars spaced at six inches on center are provided when opening dimensions are less than two feet for dimension A or less than one foot for dimension B, with a one foot six inch minimum extension or hook. Additional reinforcement is placed in the bottom flute for reinforcement parallel to the flutes, maintaining three-quarters of an inch clear cover. A steel deck closure piece or formed edge is supplied by the steel deck contractor, and the deck is cut at least seven days after the concrete is placed.
