A structural steel column bears on a steel base plate set over one and a half inches of non-shrink grout atop a concrete pier. The base plate is secured with anchor bolts anchored into the concrete pier and footing assembly, which is reinforced with vertical dowels and horizontal ties. A concrete slab on grade surrounds the column base with a designated concrete blockout, maintaining an eight-inch thickness transition. The column connects to the base plate using a five-sixteenth-inch fillet weld as specified per plan and schedule.
