A deep wide-flange beam frames into a wide-flange girder using a typical shear plate connection with slip-critical bolts. ASTM A572 Grade 50 continuity plates match the flange width and thickness of the larger of the two intersecting beams and are welded to the girder web. Complete joint penetration groove welds secure the continuity plates at the top and bottom flanges. Fillet welds attach the shear plate and beam elements with typical sizing and spacing. Flange dimensions for the continuity plates are determined by the larger member.
