A wide flange steel beam connects to the flange of a wide flange steel column using a welded-bolted single-plate shear connection. A connection plate of thickness t per schedule is welded to the column face and bolted to the beam web with three bolts typically spaced at three inches on center. The centerline of the bolt group is located two inches from the face of the column web, with a one-and-three-quarter-inch typical edge distance to the plate edge. The beam top and bottom flanges maintain a one-half-inch typical clearance from the column face.
