Steel beams frame into a hollow structural section column using a welded moment connection and a bolted shear plate. The beam flanges are connected to the column and continuity plates with complete joint penetration welds, incorporating typical weld access holes. Cap plates and continuity plates match the thickness of the thickest welded beam flange plus one-eighth inch and the greater width of the column or welded beam flange. A shear plate is welded to the column face and bolted to the beam web with five-sixteenth inch fillet welds on three sides.
