A hollow structural section column or member is tied together using a 1/2-inch by 6-inch by 1'-0" steel plate secured with four 5/8-inch diameter through bolts. An angle is positioned below, with orientation varying as required by field conditions. Fillet welds of 1/4-inch size connect the components according to standard structural detailing. Spacing is maintained with typical 1 1/2-inch edge distances around the plate and fasteners.
