A structural steel joist girder connects to a column flange using welded bearing and stiffener plates made of Grade 50 steel. The top chord is supported by a 3/4-inch by 8-inch by column-flange-width bearing plate welded with 5/16-inch fillets, reinforced by two 1/2-inch by 8-inch by 5-inch stiffener plates on each side. A vertical 3/4-inch by 8-inch by 24-inch stiffener plate is welded to the column web with 1/4-inch fillets. The bottom chord connects via a designated typical bottom chord connection detail.
