A structural steel brace frame column connects to a heavy embedded base plate anchored into the first floor concrete slab. The connection incorporates a notched plate at the column web and a gusset plate fastened with multiple bolts. A column splice is detailed at four feet six inches above the floor level. The large embed plate measures five feet six inches long and two and one-quarter inches thick, welded to the column with partial joint penetration welds and anchored by two rows of one-inch diameter by one-foot long embed studs.
