A wide-flange steel column bears on a base plate atop a three-inch layer of non-shrink grout and a concrete footing or pier. Buckling-restrained braces frame into gusset plates connected to the column web and base plate, with stiffener plates welded to both sides of the column web. ASTM F1554 Grade 105 threaded anchor rods with jam nuts secure the base plate, featuring plate washers and tack-welded nuts. Additional anchorage shear reinforcement consisting of three #3 top and bottom bars is centered on the embed plate and spaced vertically and horizontally below the plate, with standard hooks provided where full straight bars cannot fit. Side plates are positioned on each side and held vertical during welding, and shear studs are distributed per schedule.
