Metal roof and composite deck panels bear on structural steel framing members with specified minimum bearing lengths. End joints are installed either butt tight with optional profile closure plates at deck flutes or with a minimum two-and-a-half-inch lap joint. Puddle welds secure the metal deck directly to the supporting steel flange according to the structural schedule. Deck ribs are left unclosed except where profile closure plates are required at flutes.
