A hollow structural section beam frames into the web of a wide flange beam using three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plates welded to each side of the hollow structural section beam. The hollow structural section top flange is coped as required to fit the wide flange profile. A one-quarter-inch minimum fillet weld secures the hollow structural section to the stiffener plates. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld on three sides secures the stiffener plates to the wide flange beam.
