This structural steel detail shows an internal stiffener plate aligned along the centerline of a column, terminating near the dimension k. A cap plate matching the stiffener plate with a one-half-inch minimum thickness is welded to the top of the column. Beams attach to the column sides using structural bolts and shear connection plates. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld is indicated at the stiffener plate connections.
