This connection utilizes a shear plate welded to the supporting wide flange beam to receive the supported wide flange beam via a bolted connection. The shear plate thickness is matched by a steel stiffener plate that extends to the edge of the beam flanges, required for one-sided connections. A three-sixteenths inch fillet weld secures the stiffener plate to the supporting member. The assembly maintains a typical three-inch clearance, which increases to three and one-half inches for profiles larger than W27. The connection geometry accounts for the beam depth dimension 'D', defined as the lesser of the two beam depths where applicable, and maintains a two-inch typical clearance at the top and bottom of the connection relative to the 'K' dimension.
