A hollow structural section beam bears onto a hollow structural section hanger sized per plan, with top of steel established by a reference datum. A five-sixteenth-inch by four-inch by zero-foot-six-inch plate is inserted into the end of the hanger and welded with typical one-quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides. A maximum one-inch clearance gap is maintained between the connected members, with the connection detailed typical for structural steel assemblies.
