A three-eighths-inch through plate passes through a slotted hollow structural section column in this beam-to-column connection. The hollow structural section column is slotted as required for the plate, with the slot fabricated one-sixteenth-inch wider than the plate thickness. A one-quarter-inch cap plate is sized to fit at the top of the column. Beams frame into the connection from opposite sides as occurs, secured via bolts and plate lengths referenced in the structural schedule. Five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds attach the connecting elements, with plate trimming applied at one-sided configurations.
