A structural steel broken back ridge beam connects to a hollow structural section column using three-eighths-inch stiffener plates on each side welded to the web with one-quarter-inch welds. The steel broken back ridge beam features a plate knifed around the web and is secured with structural angles sized five by three and a half by one-quarter inches on each side with three seven-eighths-inch diameter A325 bolts. A metal roof deck spans across the steel beams, which include coped flanges at the perimeter beam and a bent plate matching the beam flange thickness and width made of 50 KSI steel. Fillet welds of various sizes secure the stiffener plates, flange-to-beam connections, and coped web-to-flange plates.
