Two parallel reinforcing steel bars are lapped longitudinally in a non-contact configuration with a maximum separation of six inches. The splice length spans the overlapping distance between the bars unless noted otherwise. A transverse dimension labeled "CS" controls the offset between the parallel lap splices, with a minimum separation of one bar diameter or six inches.
