Metal grating bears on a supporting steel beam and is secured in place with bolted grating clips installed per the manufacturer. A vertical guardrail attaches to a three-sixteenths-inch steel plate located at the edge of the grating. Two bars nearest the vertical rail feature welds specified as three-sixteenths-inch with a two-inch spacing, while typical connections utilize one-eighth-inch welds with a two-inch spacing. The vertical guardrail supports are spaced at four feet maximum.
