A structural steel connection detail shows a column welded to a steel base plate with a gusset plate attached for bracing. The gusset plate is welded to the column face and base plate with specified weld sizes and lengths governed by structural calculations. A work point is established at the top of the base plate for alignment and layout purposes. Bolted connections on the gusset plate tie into the adjacent diagonal member shown in dashed lines.
