A buckling-restrained brace frames into the web of a wide flange structural steel column with a gusset plate welded directly to the column and beam assembly. A minimum one-half-inch stiffener plate matching the column flange is provided at the connection point. The stiffener plate thickness equals the beam web plus a minimum of one-eighth inch. Complete joint penetration welds are specified on three sides for the primary connection elements, complemented by five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides.
