An HSS beam connects to an HSS column per plan with a 5/16-inch fillet weld and a 1/2-inch clearance. The top of the HSS column is sealed with a 1/4-inch cap plate secured with a seal weld. A 1-inch base plate matching the beam width is bolted to the support column using four 1-inch diameter A325 bolts set on the beam gauge. A 3/8-inch stiffener plate reinforces the support column assembly.
