A steel beam bears over a hollow structural section steel column with an intermediate wind girt connection. The top assembly features a bearing plate sized to match the beam flange with a minimum one-half inch thickness, secured by four seven-eighth inch diameter bolts and welded with three-sixteenth inch fillet welds. A five-sixteenth inch stiffener plate is provided on each side, aligned with the top and bottom of the hollow structural section, welded on three sides with three-sixteenth inch fillet welds. A wind girt of size per plan intersects the hollow structural section column with three-eighth inch stiffener plates on each side aligned with the top and bottom of the hollow structural section stub. Additional shear tabs and stiffener plates are provided as required per architectural and structural plans.
