Geometric parameters and stiffener placement define a coped steel beam end connection. The cope length and depth dc are dimensioned relative to the overall beam depth D, with bolt locations adjusted as required by engineering constraints. Web stiffeners of size W are welded along the cope and web, with plate lengths LS determined by the greater of three times the plate width or two times the cope depth. Fillet welds connect the stiffener plates to the web, and bolt holes are spaced vertically within the minimum 0.7D region.
SECT MIN 0.7D NOTE 3 SEE dc LS COPE LENGTH W W LS LS D W NOTES: 1. W - SHALL BE 5/8t OR AISC MINIMUM. 2. LS - SHALL BE THE GREATER OF THREE TIMES THE PLATE WIDTH OR TWO TIMES THE COPE DEPTH (dc). 3. ADJUST BOLT LOCATION AS REQUIRED.
