Unreinforced web penetrations must maintain a minimum clear distance of four inches from the top and bottom flanges. The maximum diameter of any unreinforced penetration is restricted to one-quarter of the total beam depth. Spacing dimensions D1 and D2 govern the clear horizontal distance between adjacent penetrations. Dashed boundary lines indicate the typical allowable penetration zone located within the middle region of the beam web.
