Two steel joist and girder splice configurations are detailed, featuring five-inch deep joist bearing ends with two three-quarter-inch diameter erection bolts at joists spanning forty feet or more. The alternate splice includes an L4x4x3/8 by one foot six inch angle on each side, two three-quarter-inch diameter A325 erection bolts at all long-span joists, and a five-eighths-inch by sixteen-inch by four-foot splice plate. Metal roof decks bear atop the joists, while steel girders support the assembly below with girder bottom chord braces provided by the joist supplier typically at the joist nearest mid-span of the girder. Three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds secure the bottom chord bracing connections. A note specifies that the detail applies only to joists with top chord axial loads.
