A steel beam purlin framing into a moment frame or braced frame beam of the same depth features a custom steel plate measuring three-eighths of an inch thick by the beam flange width plus one inch. The connection is secured with three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides along the bottom plate and intermittent welds along the web shear tab. Concrete over steel deck or bare steel deck bears above the supporting steel members.
