The open web steel joist rests on a column cap plate, with the joist seat depth specified as seven and one-half inches. A one-quarter inch fillet weld is applied to the LH series joist seat. The column is fitted with three-eighths inch by six inch by six inch stabilizer plates for K series joists, or three-quarter inch by six inch by six inch plates for LH series joists, each featuring a thirteen-sixteenths inch diameter hole. These stabilizer plates are attached to the column with three-sixteenths inch fillet welds on both sides. The joist is left unwelded to the stabilizer plate, and bolt locations must be coordinated between the joist manufacturer and the steel fabricator.
