Metal deck floor openings are framed with channel members such as C6 and C8 shapes placed around the perimeter. Channel ends connect using either a two-bolt beam connection or a quarter-inch fillet weld four inches long at each side of the web typically. Closure plates and trim reinforcing elements close out the deck edge with a two-inch clearance. The metal deck is attached to the framing per the project deck schedule typically. Openings exceeding forty-eight inches in maximum dimension require notification to the engineer for structural design.
