A steel beam connects to a structural steel column utilizing a shear plate reference detail. A structural steel angle measuring 3x3x1/2 spans the beam width typically at the underside. A maximum 1/8-inch gap is maintained between members, welded with full partial-joint-penetration welds typically. A bent plate attaches at the beam end with a shear plate detailed on sheet S5.01. Three-inch returns are provided on each side with 3/16-inch fillet welds plus gap.
