An HSS 6x6x1/4 hollow structural section steel column extends down through a finish slab and is embedded into a concrete footing. Four 1/2-inch diameter welded studs, each 5 inches long, are welded to the tube within the footing. A closure plate caps the top of the column. The footing is 24 inches square or in diameter with a total depth of 3 feet, maintaining a 3-inch clearance below the bottom of the column.
